Sociology (Period 2)

Course Description

Sociology is the study of society.  In this course we will seek to examine our societies and their influence on our behavior as well as the influence of our behavior on society.  Topics may include: groups, culture, institutions (Economy, Family, Education, Government, and Religion).   We will look at their purpose and function in society, and what they mean to people.  Sub-topics may include socio-economic status, class, gender, race, and how those affect our journey through life.  Students will discover who early Sociologists were, sociological terms, and how those have impacted our society today.  Skills developed will include research, writing, critical thinking, questioning/inquiry, speaking, and group collaboration.
